The thrill to be in New York City to ring in the new year always excited wish kid Rachel. She would watch the ball drop on her television set and think how amazing it would be to watch it in person. Rachel's wish to be in NYC for New Year's Eve finally came true when Make-A-Wish® and Fox News teamed up to help her celebrate the past year and ring in 2015 in style.
This Murrysville, PA, native boarded a United Airlines flight from Pittsburgh to New York City on December 29, with her parents and three brothers, ready for an exciting adventure in the city that never sleeps. Her first day in the Big Apple included ice skating in the famous Rockefeller Center. Rachel, diagnosed with a severe gastrointestinal disorder, was all smiles as she glided across the ice with her family and put medical worries far from her mind.
"I'm happy for Rachel and the boys that they could have some time away and escape from reality," said Rachel's mom on the Fox News All-American New Year special.
Rachel got the full New York experience, with a visit to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, a hibachi tableside show for lunch at Benihana, a chance to view the Macy's windows and a tour of the ball installation at Times Square, one of the family's favorite experiences. Rachel, who loves Broadway, was also excited to attend the Aladdin musical and meet the stars after the show.
"I love New York City," said Rachel smiling.
Then it was time for New Year's Eve. After being interviewed about her wish experience on a national Fox News All-American New Year broadcast, Rachel and her family had an unobstructed view of the ball as it dropped to ring in 2015 from a New York City rooftop.
After ending 2014 and starting 2015 with several memorable experiences, Rachel's upcoming year is sure to be full of special surprises.
