Like many three-year-olds, Masie from Carbondale, PA wants to become a beautiful princess. Her face lights up when her favorite movie Beauty and the Beast flashes on screen, and she, too, wishes to experience the magic that Belle felt in the enchanted castle. Masie, however, is diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy. Whenever a Disney commercial would come on the TV, Masie would tell her mother how much she wanted to go. Make-A-Wish® stepped in to bring Masie's dreams to life.
Masie and her family arrived by plane in sunny Orlando, FL, at Give Kids the World Village, a special resort with a gingerbread restaurant, the Ice Cream Palace, and the Castle of Miracles. Masie especially loved the weekly Halloween Party that the Village hosted because she had the chance to dress up like the princess she is. She also loved the handfuls of sweets she received.
The best part, however, was meeting all the characters in the parks. The princesses treasured Masie, cuddling her and kissing her cheek. Masie felt as if she could snuggle in the princesses' arms forever. She especially liked spunky Rapunzel from Tangled and determined Tiana from The Princess and the Frog. According to Masie's mother, "Everyone treated her like gold."
Surrounded by fairy tales and magic, Masie experienced a wish of a lifetime. Masie's mother said, referring to Make-A-Wish, "You gave our daughter everything she's ever dreamed of. She looks at pictures everyday -- in her daydreams, she can walk, dance, and spin like the princesses." Time with family, lasting memories, and the realization of a dream -- that is what makes up true magic.
