Vincent Travels to the Big Apple to Meet the New York City Fire Department
Vincent, 12, of McKean, PA, diagnosed with refractory/intractable epilepsy, was leaving for his wish trip to New York City, but not before local fire stations could throw him a special wish send-off party. So on August 13, 2012, staff from many of the neighboring fire stations and emergency service providers cheered for Vincent at the McKean hose house, a big surprise for him.
Inspired by his dad's work as a firefighter, Vincent chose to visit New York City for his wish to meet the courageous NYC firefighters and visit Ground Zero. On his trip, Vincent visited the FDNY headquarters, where he was sworn in by Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano, and had a special tour of Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial. He even had a spectacular view of the city from a fire boat ride and from the top of the Empire State Building. His wish trip also included a tour of the New York City Fire Museum.
For this wish kid, it was a trip of a lifetime to meet the men and women he admires so much.
