Exploring the Heart and History of Hawaii

Austin and his family enjoying a beautiful evening in Hawaii

“ It was a week our family will not forget... ”

- Austin's mom

Nothing fascinates 13-year-old Austin quite like WWII history and the armed forces. This history buff from Greenville, PA, had always dreamed of submersing himself into the heart of history. That is why when Austin was given the chance to pick his perfect wish, he chose to go to Hawaii and visit Pearl Harbor so he could have the chance to do just that. Austin was finally getting the chance to leave his illness behind and enjoy a stress-free and educational week on the beautiful island.

Aloha!Austin was so excited for his Hawaiian vacation that he talked about it at least once every single day leading up to the trip. After much anticipation, the day finally arrived. Every aspect of the trip was above and beyond expectations. From the hotel accommodations to the staff service, Austin and his family were blown away by everyone’s generosity and kindness.

The overwhelming kindness only continued as Austin explored the island. Every day, Austin went on a fun adventure and received souvenirs to take home. One of Austin’s favorite days was snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, where he saw sea life that he would never be able to see at home. The real highlight of Austin’s wish trip was his visit to the USS Arizona Memorial, which commemorates the attack on Pearl Harbor. Austin couldn’t believe he was in the same place that it took place. Austin learned more than he could in any book or website by actually being there and seeing the memorial first hand. It was an incredible experience.

Overall, it was a week that Austin and his family will never forget. Austin’s mother described the trip as a “dream vacation."  Austin was not only able to visit a place that he had been dying to see, but he also got to spend some quality time with his family. The time they shared will not be easily forgotten, and it will live on through the photos, stories and memories of Austin’s fun-filled wish trip.
