When college football season starts, there is one team that nine-year-old Hope cheers for the most – Notre Dame. So when this Danville, PA, wish kid, diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, was given the opportunity to have a wish granted, she knew she wanted to be a Notre Dame cheerleader.
When Hope and her family first arrived in South Bend, she was treated like one of the team. During her entire wish weekend, she practiced with the cheerleaders, learning cheers and stunts, and even got her own uniform and pom poms! On Friday, Hope made her debut as a Notre Dame cheerleader at a pep rally for the team, where she helped lead a parade down Notre Dame Ave. to the Irish Green. Then on Saturday, she was given special treatment for the big game, participating in the pre-game practice and special seats to watch the Fighting Irish in action.
"This is awesome. It's wonderful to see her get this dream because she wants to be a cheerleader," Hope’s mom told a reporter for the Irish UNDerground blog.
Hope’s magical wish was truly a dream come true. She had the chance to forget about hospitals and medical treatments and remember what it’s like to be a kid and just have fun. It was an incredible experience for Hope and one that she will definitely never forget.
