It’s a bird…it’s a plane… it’s Travis and Superman on a mission to take over Toys 'R' Us! Travis is an adorable four-year-old from York, PA, whose smile could light even the darkest of rooms. You would never know by just looking at him that Travis is living with cystic fibrosis, undergoing constant treatments and doctor’s visits for his condition. Make-A-Wish® set up a shopping spree of a lifetime for Travis and his idol, Superman, which provided Travis with a much needed break from the super-size challenges that he takes on due to his illness.
Travis pulled up to the local Toys 'R' Us in a limousine, wearing his bright red Superman cape. His two loves, Superman and toys, awaited him as he entered the store. No walking was required for Travis, who rode around the store on a Hot Wheels four-wheeler that he later got to take home, along with a new swing set, Legos, an Xbox and a cart full of toys. He was very careful about selecting which toys made it from the shelves to his cart, getting the best investments possible. After Travis’ shopping extravaganza, he and his family enjoyed a cake that read “Boy of Steel”—the perfect description for this brave and strong boy.
This day will not be easily forgotten by Travis and his family. It was more than just a shopping trip because it will continue to provide Travis with joy through not only the toys he received, but also the memories he made. Travis’ mother loved watching him enjoy his day, admitting that she was surprised she didn’t start crying. Travis’ mother said, “I know how much he has to go through on a daily basis and I know that he’s going to have to do it for the rest of his life, even after I’m done taking care of him, he’s still going to have to go through it. So it’s awesome, I’m so excited for him.”
