Ten-year-old wish kid Sean tries to be as active as possible, loving to run outside and play soccer. However, being diagnosed with a life-threatening immune disorder, he is constantly concerned about his health. When introduced to Make-A-Wish, Sean’s eyes lit up at the thought of his perfect wish – a service dog. Sean told his volunteers, “I want a service dog so I’ll always have a best friend and he can alert my mom if something is wrong.”
Finally, the day arrived for Sean to meet his new companion. At a nearby park, an ice cream party awaited Sean, his brother, and his parents. While enjoying their frozen treats, the guest-of-honor finally arrived. Sean was thrilled to meet Max, a rambunctious labrador retriever, for the first time. He was especially ecstatic that his new friend was also his favorite color, black.
After eight months, Sean and Max are now best friends. Wherever Sean is, Max is right beside him – they even share a bedroom! Max is full of energy and is now old enough to start his service training. Sean is looking forward to many years with his new friend and guardian.
