A wish can come in many forms, depending on a child’s most heartfelt desire. For some, it is a chance to visit an exotic destination, to go on a grand shopping spree, to meet an iconic celebrity, or to work at their dream job for a day. But, for 17-year-old Isaac, of State College, PA, he saw his wish as an opportunity to not only bring happiness to himself, but to others.
Isaac is a dedicated member of the State College Area High School track team. When he is out on the field, feet hitting the pavement and dust trailing behind him, everything seems possible. “Running is where I relieve a lot of stress,” said Isaac. In April 2015, Isaac was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, but that did not stop his running spirit.
“I like proving my doctors wrong, so I decided to just keep at it,” said Isaac. This young man knew that he did not want his condition to define him. With his ongoing perseverance and great determination, he continues to run for his school’s team. So when Isaac was approached by his Make-A-Wish® volunteers, he knew exactly what he wanted to wish for.
Back in March, a special delivery was made to State College Area High School. On the field was a large box of new uniforms for the school’s track team. This kindhearted teen’s wish to give his teammates the brand new uniforms they so desperately needed was granted. “For a while we’ve been using the older uniforms, because we’ve never been able to catch up with the number of kids on the team, so I hope to help fix that,” Isaac told WTAJ-TV. It was an issue that Isaac had always wanted to remedy. Because his teammates had been there to support him, it was his turn to give back.
With a humble smile, Isaac happily handed out the burgundy knit jerseys. He was proud knowing that he was able to give something special to his fellow teammates. While passing out the new uniforms to his peers, Isaac said, “I just think this is more important to me. I feel that if I can give something to the rest of my team, I would be happy and 30 other kids can be happy too.”
Now, because of Isaac’s wish, members of the State College Area High track team share a closer bond than ever. Students and faculty alike will never forget Isaac’s selfless act, while Isaac remains thankful for his wonderful wish to give.
