There is truly nothing more priceless than watching a child meet his greatest hero. But how about a child getting served a hamburger by his greatest hero? Or playing video games on the scoreboard with his greatest hero? That, my friends, takes the cake – or should we say, the fries.
But don’t take our word for it. Tune in tonight to SportsCenter “My Wish” at 6 p.m., and watch as 10-year-old Sean meets his longtime idol, Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now in its 10th year, the SportsCenter series features five sports wishes granted by Make-A-Wish.
Sean, who is diagnosed with a congenital heart condition, came from Leonardtown, MD, to spend the day with McCutchen. An avid Pirates fan, Sean lives and breathes baseball. The ESPN production crew captured one great moment after the next. Sean’s wish day was full of surprises– and we have no intention of spoiling them here, so you’ll just have to tune in.
Still, a note we received afterwards from Sean’s mom, Jennifer, let us know his wish was a homerun:
“It is hard to put into words how much we appreciate all the effort, time and resources that went into this experience. It will be a legendary day in our family history, one we hope Sean can tell his children and grandchildren about. You have brought this mother to tears of joy and gratitude.”
If you tune in tonight, you may also want to keep a box of tissues nearby. You know, just in case there’s some of that infield dust still flying around. If the kindness of Andrew McCutchen and the entire Pirates organization won’t move you to tears, Sean’s determination, strength and sheer joy just might.
