Wish Wednesday: Fairytales of the Fall

Cameron as a member of the Notre Dame football team
The season of fall brings many new things; from changing leaves and crisp air, to pumpkin-picking and pig-skin tossing. And for some of our wish kids, it brings their own fun to get done.

Meet Dasha, Jacob and Cameron and read about their fairytales of the fall.

Dasha, 11, Life-threatening heart condition
Dasha, an 11-year-old from Butler, PA, had her wish-come-true last month when she walked outside to see a brand new play-set in her backyard. Dasha loves to be outside any chance she gets, and now even more fun awaits her as she can climb, swing and slide for as long as she desires throughout the autumn season.

Jacob, 11, Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy
This month, Jacob, of Red Lion, PA, is leaving the fall for a few days and fast-forwarding into Winter – Winter the Dolphin, that is. Jacob wants nothing more than to travel to Clearwater, FL, and meet the famous dolphin that has a prosthetic tail after beating the odds and surviving from being entangled in a crab line. Winter the Dolphin has an inspiring tale (and tail) that will be sure to uplift Jacob’s spirits and help him discover newfound hope, strength and joy.

Cameron, 15, Chronic kidney disease
Last year, in early November, 15 (now 16)-year-old Cameron left his home in Bethlehem, PA, and headed for Indiana to join the Fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame. Cameron, who is quite possibly Notre Dame’s biggest football fan, wished to be a Notre Dame football player, and he did just that. Watch the video below, "Strong and True - Fulfilling A Wish," to see just how meaningful Cameron’s wish was to both him and his family.

Want to get involved and help wish kids experience the magic of a wish just like Dasha, Jacob and Cameron? Here are a few ways you can help throughout the fall season:

  • Attend an event benefiting Make-A-Wish, like Pittsburgh's Boo & Brew Bash 2014. Visit our Calendar of Events page to see what’s happening in your local area.
  • Refer a child. Be the start of a wish-come-true today by referring a child who is between the ages of 2 ½ and 18 and has a life-threatening medical condition. Click here to learn more about how to make a referral.
  • Help wishes fly into fall and donate your frequent flyer air miles from Delta, U.S. Airways and United. Once donated, they never expire. Click here to donate or for more information.
