This exciting event will take place in August 2020, where, in just one day, Trailblaze Challengers will trek 23.4 miles of the North Country Trail while making a significant impact on the lives of children battling critical illnesses in our community.
We are currently looking for volunteers that are interested in becoming official hike leaders. Hike leaders must know basic first aid, be able to follow a trail, manage other hiking responsibilities and, most importantly, care about the Make-A-Wish® mission.
The plan is simple, people sign up in April 2020 and follow our training schedule for 16 weeks and fundraise along the way. We will have eight practice hikes every other week following the initial sign up, slowly building the hikes up in length - similar to a marathon training schedule. Everything comes together for the big hike weekend where we trek *23.4 miles of the North Country Trail in Clarion County. This will be happening on August 15, 2020 and we are so excited to get it rolling.
*Please note that hiking leaders will work in shifts and will not be hiking the full 23.4 miles.
Though the hike is only one day, Trailblaze is a three day event.
As a hike leader, Make-A-Wish will cover the cost of your hotel accommodations, Friday night pasta dinner, all meals on Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast.
Hike Weekend Schedule:
- Friday, August 14th: Hikers arrive in Clarion, PA; evening pasta party
- Saturday, August 15th: 23.4 mile hike begins at 5 a.m., and concludes by 8 p.m.
- Sunday, August 16th: victory breakfast
