OMEGA-WV August Campaign Underway

Wish kid Skye with family, Little General Store Staff and Charleston Make-A-Wish Manager Jo Beth Smith

Since 2003, West Virginia Oil Marketers & Grocers Association (OMEGA-WV) members have raised nearly $1.9 million for charities who improve the lives of West Virginia children, including Make-A-Wish. Throughout August, OMEGA-WV member stores will be selling wish stars throughout the month to help make wishes come true.  Last year, the campaign raised $161,000 to help grant the wishes of wish kids living in the Mountain State. OMEGA-WV affiliates include Go-Mart, Little General Stores, Stop In Food Stores, One Stop, Par Mar, Team Sledd, RT Rogers Oil Co., Bruceton Petroleum, DeFazio Oil Company, Petersburg Oil Company, Jameson Family Markets and TriState Petroleum Corporation.

On August 1, 2014, several locations helped to kick off the campaign with West Virginia wish kids and media events.

Par Mar, Parkersburg

Wish kid Michael, diagnosed with Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, stopped by the Par Mar Stores location in Parkersburg, where he was met by Star Wars characters and was interviewed by WVVV-V96.9 radio. Michael had his shopping spree wish come true this past spring.

Par Mar, Huttonsville

Wish kid Madison, 12, diagnosed with intractable epilepsy, helped kick off the OMEGA-WV campaign in Huttonsville.  was in attendance to help kick off the event. Since Madison's wish was to go to Walt Disney World, plenty of characters were on hand to help make it a special day. To raise extra money for the kickoff, Par Mar had a table where customers could make a $1 donation to Make-A-Wish to hit a Par Mar employee with a water balloon.

One Stop, Charleston

Twelve-year-old wish kid Adam, who wished to go on a Duck Dynasty cruise, signed the first wish star at the One Stop location in Charleston, WV, and was interviewed by WOWK-TV news.

"It gave me something to look forward to when I was undergoing treatment," said Adam, who is diagnosed with lymphosarcoma.  "And then when I got that wish, it was just awesome.  It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Go Mart, Clarksburg/Nutter Fort

Go Mart in Clarksburg, WV, kicked off its Make-A-Wish campaign with some Disney magic.  Wish kid Rylan, who went to the Orlando theme parks in April, shared her experiences at the store as customers came in to purchase stars.  Her mother was interviewed by WBOY-TV.

Little General Store, MacArthur

Wish kid Skye, who had her wish granted to visit New York City, stopped by the Little General Store to talk about her wish with the Register Herald and sign a Make-A-Wish star.
