Make-A-Wish® kicked off volunteer training in the northern West Virginia area this past Saturday, November 16, 2013, in Morgantown with a Wish Granting 101 Training Session. The training was graciously hosted by West Virginia University and there was a nice turn out. Those in attendance showed incredible warmth and a bountiful amount of energy. There was a mix of new with a few current volunteers. Some traveled a long distance to be there and for that Make-A-Wish is particularly grateful.
This year, the local chapter is on target to grant 762 wishes – 55 of them in northern West Virginia alone. Make-A-Wish's goal is to reach every single child in the area who is eligible. As we continue our outreach efforts, this number will continue to grow and our volunteer needs with it. Immediately following training, we were able to assign volunteers to seven new wishes. This means seven deserving children will soon be meeting their volunteer teams to have their most heartfelt wishes granted.
We are encouraged by the enthusiasm, renewed energy and welcome by Northern West Virginia Make-A-Wish® volunteers. We know, with their tireless dedication to the children we serve, good things are ahead.
Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia will be hosting more Volunteer Training Sessions in the northern West Virginia area. Please contact Sarah Strodtbeck in the Morgantown office at 800-480-9474 or request more information via the Volunteer section of our website.
