When 14-year-old Jaaziel was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, his days were filled with doctor’s visits, scans and treatments, and it was difficult for him to stay positive. But when Jaaziel was referred to Make-A-Wish®, he was finally able to focus on finding happiness.
That’s when Jaaziel knew he wanted his wish to be something that would comfort him through his battle with cancer. That “something” would have four paws, a cute wrinkly face and a stubby tail. Jaaziel had always wanted an English bulldog, and his wish was the perfect chance to live his doggy dream.
On the morning of his wish-come-true, Jaaziel’s wish volunteers took him on a shopping spree to get ready for when he welcomed home his new pal. Jaaziel was able to pick out all of the puppy essentials, everything from treats to toys.
When Jaaziel, his volunteers and his family returned home after shopping, the breeder brought Jaaziel’s new pup to his house. Jaaziel was ecstatic with puppy love when he finally saw his little bundle of brown and white patches. He named his new pet puppy “Jay Wish,” and the two took to each other right away. They have been inseparable ever since.
“The dog helps me with anxiety and I love playing with it,” Jaaziel said in an interview with the Public Opinion, his hometown newspaper.
For Jaaziel, Jay Wish is more than just a cute companion – he is a reminder of hope each day Jaaziel wakes up and sees his furry friend next to him. Now that Jaaziel is in remission, his dog days are over… but his puppy days have just begun.
