WWE® Superstar, John Cena, has overcome surgeries to his neck, elbow, and upper arm and continues to dominate the ring. His motto -- “never give up” -- is extremely inspiring to one little boy in particular. Giovanni, of Jersey Shore, Pa., is a seven-year-old boy that has battled a life-threatening genetic disorder his whole life. Throughout his struggles, he has looked to John Cena for hope. It was no surprise his wish was to meet his WWE hero.
Giovanni hopped on a plane for the first time and headed to Fresno, Calif., with his family by his side. When he first arrived, he had a special meeting with John and gave him a shirt that read, “Team Giovanni.” After the meeting, Giovanni and his family got ready to watch Mr. Cena in action.
Much to Giovanni’s surprise, John entered the ring wearing his “Team Giovanni” T-shirt! After the match, John called Giovanni over so the two could share a hug. In all the excitement, Giovanni began to tear up. Fearing he was not feeling well, his mother asked him what was wrong. He looked at her and shouted, “Mama, I am just so happy!” Giovanni’s mom was blown away.
“In that precious moment, our sweet child was so incredibly filled with nothing but pure joy,” wrote mom. “Nothing else mattered. Not upcoming doctor appointments. Not the mental scars left after so many surgeries. Giovanni was the happiest we had ever seen him.”
Meeting his hero has helped Giovanni in countless ways. Now, instead of dreading his doctor’s appointments, he is excited to show his doctors all of his pictures with his WWE hero. He also tells his family and doctors that even if he is not feeling well, he can’t give up because Mr. Cena wouldn’t want him to. Giovanni is prepared to wrestle his struggles, just like John Cena wrestles his.
