Become a Make-A-Wish® Volunteer and Help Make Wishes Come True

Make-A-Wish® is looking for kindhearted individuals to step forward and volunteer their time and friendship in order to assist with wish fulfillment. To become a wish volunteer, individuals must be at least 21 years of age, pass a criminal background check and attend a training session. The next training session is being held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 9:30 a.m.

Local Mercer County Wish Kid to Become Seattle Sounder

Eighteen-year-old Xander, of Bluefield, W.Va., will soon be granted his most heartfelt wish as he travels to the Emerald City to become a Seattle Sounders soccer player for a day. Xander, who is diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, is receiving his wish on behalf of Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Great Kindness in Small Package: Make-A-Wish Kid Pays It Forward

Four-year-old Dominic Kerr’s most heartfelt wish is to go on a shopping spree, but not entirely for himself. Dominic’s wish is to make sure there are also toys for other kids just like him. On Monday, June 23, 2014, Dominic, from Mercer, Pa., will deliver newly purchased toys from his Make-A-Wish shopping spree to fill the treasure chest in the Marty Ostrow Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Center at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

From Cancer to College

Brianna Morrow was diagnosed with cancer at age five, but now she is stronger than ever as she graduates high school and heads off to college. On May 9th, Brianna received the Kurt R. Weiss Scholarship for Wish Kids. She graduated from McDowell High School and will pursue a degree in violin performance at Baldwin Wallace University.

Last month, Fairway Subaru presented $5,000 from its “Share the Love” campaign to Make-A-Wish® Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia. With the help of Subaru’s generous donation, local wish kid, Lucy, of West Hazleton, PA, traveled to the most magical place on earth, the Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Got Miles? Help Wishes Take Flight

Make-A-Wish is launching a month-long campaign to raise air miles in time for summer wish travel. Frequent fliers with air miles from Delta, U.S. Airways and United are encouraged to donate their unused miles to Make-A-Wish through the Wishes in Flight® Program. Those miles are turned into free flights for kids battling life-threatening medical conditions and never expire.

Local Make-A-Wish Chapter to Grant Milestone Wish

Eighteen-year-old Bridget Glenn, of Bridgeport, W.Va., will be receiving her wish for a bedroom redecoration this Thursday, February 27th – but shhh… it’s a surprise!

Bridget, who is diagnosed with an immune-mediated neurological condition, is receiving her wish on behalf of Make-A-Wish®. This wish marks the 1,000th wish that the Northern West Virginia regional office has granted since it began in 1990.

Mercer County Wish Kid Returns Home from Hawaii

Thirteen-year-old Austin, of Greenville, Pa., has recently returned from his wish trip spent in the tropical paradise of Hawaii. Austin, who is diagnosed with extensive arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and partial epilepsy, received his wish on behalf of Make-A-Wish® Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
