First responders from all over North America came together in York, PA, from July 13 - 20, 2014, to help make some special wishes come true. More than 30 venues hosted the 2014 York Can-Am Games, an Olympic-style sporting event benefiting Make-A-Wish® Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Wish kid Sebastian lit the torch for the opening ceremonies on Sunday, July 13, at the York Expo Center. During the Can-Am Police-Fire Games, Make-A-Wish®
children participated in a number of activities from carrying flags during the Parade of States at Opening Ceremonies to cheering on athletes. For every $5 donated to Make-A-Wish through the Can-Am mobile app, donors received 1 entry to win a 911RR Prize pack.
The 2014 Can-Am Games featured more than 50 sporting events, including traditional athletic competitions such as swimming, softball, golf and cycling as well as industry-specific events such as toughest firefighter alive and toughest competitor alive. New to the Games for 2014 were an EMS challenge, and Olympic Lifting event which will take place at the York Barbell Company, home of the United States Weightlifting Hall of Fame.
