Light Up A Child's Life® Campaign

The Light Up A Child’s Life® campaign has been making the lives of children with critical illnesses a little bit brighter for the past 29 years. The courageous stories of our wish kids motivate both our volunteers and donors alike. By granting wishes, everyday people can make a difference in a child's life. Since 2006, the sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau at Duquesne University have been raising money for Make-A-Wish through their annual Miss Duquesne Pageant.This event grows each year and has raised over $90,000 to date.

Today, Donald and his son, Mitch, joined the broadcast to talk about their annual holiday light display in Elizabeth, PA. The grand lighting was held on November 24th and featured auctions, mascots and hot chocolate, all benefiting Make-A-Wish.

Since 1994, students of the North Hills High School Hands for Service Club have been supporting wishes. Each year, the club hosts several activities to get their faculty, staff and community involved in giving back to Make-A-Wish. Their latest event was the Jake Wudarczyk Monster Dash 5k held this past October.

Since 1990, the Pittsburgh Pirates Charities has been a strong supporter of Make-A-Wish, raising more than $245,000 through various fundraisers throughout the year. Each year, the Pittsburgh Pirates Charities and Make-A-Wish joins together to hold the annual Kurt Weiss Scholarship Reception-an event that awards wish kids graduating from high school with a scholarship for higher education.

  • Pictured here is Baldwin High School student Mikayla Davic (second to the left) with a few of her fellow classmates. For many months, Mikayla has been writing and producing her very own musical, “Lost and Found” to showcase at her school. This is the fifth year in a row that she has written and directed a production to benefit Make-A-Wish. Her initial goal in 8th grade was to raise $50,000 for Make-A-Wish before she graduates high school. We are confident she will surpass that with her final show in a few weeks.

The Employees of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Services have been raising funds for Make-A-Wish since 2007 - totaling $1 million as of this year! Each of their 12 offices are asked to hold a fundraiser – some include – holiday breakfast, purse bash, wine tasting, golf outing, bowling event, comedy night and much more, to raise funds for wishes.

  • Pictured here are the Employees on DMI/Ductmate with Stella! the star. The employees from DMI/Ductmate have been donors to the campaign since 1990, raising in total $59,006. Each year they fund a full wish for a child in Charleroi, Washington County, where their office is located.

  • Pictured here is Marshall Middle School Spanish Instructor Bill Mascari with his students. Since its founding a few years ago, the Marshall Middle School Make-A-Wish club has committed to granting a wish each year. To date, they have granted three wishes and are working on their 4th wish.

This past May was the 15th Annual Grapevine: A Wine Tasting Event, held in downtown Pittsburgh at Revel and Roost. Grapevine is an evening of wine, food and silent auctions - all organized by the Grapevine Leadership Committee. This year, the event brought in more than $70,000 its most successful year ever!

Since 1988, Highmark has been a proud supporter of wish granting, totaling more than $194,000 in donations. Make-A-Wish also participates in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community in both Pittsburgh and Erie every year.

  • Pictured here with Stella! the star is wish kid Madison and her parents. Madison is all set to go on her wish trip to the Florida theme parks in March of 2019. But, before she goes, Madison and her family are giving back to other children facing critical illnesses. Together, they have collected several toys to donate to the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Make-A-Wish.

Berkshire Hathaway has been a friend to Make-A-Wish since 1990 raising $1,251,089, with various offices holding fundraisers. This year the employees hosted their annual bowling event at The Meadows Bowling Lanes.

As a Make-A-Wish board member, Tracey, through her place of work, donated a basket of dog products for a puppy wish, as well as a basket of product for the Grapevine-A Wine Tasting Event.

The McKamish family and employees have been helping to grant wishes since 1989 – with a grand total raised to date of $1,243,151. They hold an annual employee chili cook off, holiday party and various other activities throughout the year.

  • Pictured here is Luttner Financial CEO and Chairman of the Board Earl Luttner, Katerina Luttner , Stella! the Star and Judith Stone. Luttner Financial has been hosting a golf outing to benefit Make-A-Wish since 1990 – and has raised more than $410,000 to date. This year, the outing held at the Club at Nevillewood was organized by Earl’s daughters Katerina and Nadia, and celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the outing.

  • Pictured here with Cris Winter and Shannon O'Halloran is Tony Chiancone of TCC Verizon. In September, TCC Verizon generously donated $8,800 to fund two wishes to children in the Pittsburgh area.

  • Pictured here with Shannon O'Halloran is Lynn and Bob Grimm from the Western PA Municipal Managers. Since 2010, the Western PA Municipal Managers have been raising funds for Make-A-Wish in memory of the beloved Sophia Lodovico. Together, this dedicated group has raised more than $13,000 towards wish granting.

  • Pictured here are the staff of GKG Orthodontic. GKG Orthodontic has been a supporter of wishes since 2006. To date, they have raised more than $64,000 to Make-A-Wish.

  • Pictured here is Scott Trampus from the Arcade Comedy Theater Club. Last November, the Arcade Comedy theater and The High Scores held a special comedy night benefiting Make-A-Wish. The High Scores is Arcade Comedy Theater's musical improv house team known for blending energetic short-form line and scenic games with improvised music and song.

  • Pictured here are Cris Winter, Chastity Kirby of All-Clad Metalcrafters, LLC, Bryn Kirby and Shannon O'Halloran. All-Clad located in Washington, PA, has been a supporter of Make-A-Wish since 2011 and in that time has raised more than $89,000. The majority of funds raised for Make-A-Wish are during their twice a year Factory Sales.

  • Pictured here with Cris Winter and Shannon O'Halloran are Dr. Ron Good, Dr. Bob Good and Gina Good Romano of Good Orthodontics. Good Orthodontics, with offices in Mt. Lebanon, Pleasant Hills, and Washington, PA, has been supporting Make-A-Wish since 1995 – donating more than $27,000.

  • Check out this little dedicated volunteer make her rounds to collect more donations for wishes!

  • Complete Chiropractic Health – located in Cranberry Township, PA – has been steadily raising money for Make-A-Wish over the course of the year. Some of their fundraisers include patient appreciation days, Summer Parking Lot Picnic and their always-popular Ladies Night. They also fundraise through their referral program – when a new patient is referred to Complete Chiropractic Health their first co-pay is donated to Make-A-Wish.

  • Station Square/Forest City has worked with Make-A-Wish since 1993 – starting with a collection of fountain money to Winter Wonderland Weekend - Station Square has raised more than $11,700.

  • Pictured here is wish kid Charleigh with her family. Back in 2011, Charleigh was granted her wish to go to the Florida theme parks. Since her wish, Charleigh is now 10-years-old and has been wishing it forward by collection donations for Make-A-Wish at her school, through facebook and during her last birthday celebration.

  • Alexa Speicher is a talented young lady who has been performing holiday songs and playing guitar to make tips to donate to Make-A-Wish.

  • Pictured here is wish kid Max and his family. Last January, Max and his family enjoyed a fun-filled vacation at the Florida theme parks.

  • Pictured here with Stella! the Star is wish kid Grace and her Dad. During the campaign, Grace was revealed her most heartfelt wish to go on a cruise was happening in February next year!

  • Pictured here is Caleb Vizza and his mom at the campaign. Caleb, the son of Mark Vizza who works with us during the PNC Treasury Golf Outing and Auction, participated in an Entrepreneur Day at his school – selling painted rocks. He raised $150!

  • Pictured here is wish kid Desolina and her family. In January of 2017, Desolina was granted her wish to go to the Florida theme parks.

  • Pictured here is wish kid Culyer with his Mom, Dad, brother and little sister. Back in 2017, Cuyler was granted his one-true-wish to visit the Florida theme parks.

  • Pictured here with Stephanie Pugliese is wish kid Sean. Earlier this year, Sean and his family went to the Florida theme parks for his wish. Since Sean's trip, he has been extremely grateful to Make-A-Wish and has shown support at several events like the Berkshire Hathaway Bowling Tournament and the Subaru Share the Love Event.

  • Pictured here is wish kid Andrew with his family. In 1998, Andrew was granted his wish to have a jukebox. Flash forward to today, Andrew is now 26-years-old, is a Make-A-Wish intern and is a part of the Grapevine Wine Tasting Committee, an annual wine tasting event that benefits Make-A-Wish.

  • Back in 2012, wish kid Lisa was granted her wish to go on a tropical vacation. Now, she is a student at Slippery Rock University and wants to raise money, so that other kids experience the life-changing power of a wish. That’s why she started the Campus Wishmakers, a student club that is dedicated to planning events to raise money for Make-A-Wish.

  • Pictured here is five-year-old Vivienne with her family. Recently, Vivienne and her little brother and baby sister enjoyed a week long getaway at the Florida theme parks.

  • Pictured here with Stephanie Pugliese is Mark and Keri Friedline of W.W. Friedline. Every year, the Friedline's host their annual Truck for Smiles event, a truck convoy dedicated to raising funds for wishes. This event original began in 2015 and has raised more than $131,621 to Make-A-Wish. The next convoy event will be on June 8, 2019, at the Somerset Fairgrounds.

Luca is a new member of Make-A-Wish and to kick-off his term – he and his wife, Joan, held a Holiday Wine Dinner at Narcisi Winery on Saturday, December 8th. Fifty guests attended, raising more than $9,000 to help fund wishes.

Celebrating its 12th year, the Tom Sajko Memorial Golf Outing was held this past August at the Blackhawk Golf Course in Beaver Falls. Funds are raised through the generous donations of participants in the golf outing and from ThermoFisher employees. Since 2009 the Tom Sajko Memorial Golf Outing has raised more than $29,000.

Now, Chris is all grown-up and ready to help other kids experience a life-changing wish. Next March, Chris will be hosting a pub crawl event that will benefit Make-A-Wish.

Since they first started fundraising they have raised more than $63,000!

Eisenhower Elementary has been supporting wish granting since 1991 and continues to keep the Make-A-Wish mission alive. Every year, the elementary school hosts a math-a-thon, filled with holiday themed math activities for the students. In total since 1991, that have raised more than $200,000!

  • Pictured here is wish kid Matthew and his mom. Back in 2016, Matthew was granted his wish to meet all his favorite characters at the Florida theme parks.

  • Picture here with Stella! the star are students from the Derry Area High School Interact Club. Every year, the students host a Bachelor Auction at the High School. This past spring, Derry Area High School raised more than $23,000. Their grand total raised since 1994 is now more than $157,000

  • Pictured here are Pokey Weiss and Lisa Bakaysza from Steel City Harley-Davidson. Steel City Harley-Davidson located in Washington, PA, has been raising funds for Make-A-Wish since 2007 – totaling $59,419! Their annual motorcycle ride brings out hundreds of bikes and their riders.

December 14th, 15th and 17th-21st

  • Pictured here with Wish 99.7 Radio Host Cris Winter and Make-A-Wish Development Coordinator Samara Silverstein are representatives from H2R CPA, Vince Gagliardo and Edward Scherer. This is the first year H2R CPA is joining the broadcast! H2R CPA generously sponsored Make-A-Wish’s annual wine tasting fundraiser, Grapevine, this past May with a gift of $1,500. Their contribution helped Make-A-Wish net a grand total of $70,000 in 2018 and helping to grant 15 wishes.

Since 2007, Coldwell Banker Real Estate Services has raised more than $1 million! Each office holds at least one fundraiser each year. And the Moon Township office has been holding a bowling event for 11 years at the Paradise Island Bowl & Beach.

  • Pictured here with Samara and Cris are employees of Mr. Waterheater. Since 2015, Mr. Waterheater has raised more than $36,000 towards wish granting. From Ugly Christmas Sweater Happy Hours, to Cornhole Tournaments-they know how to have a good time and raise money for a good cause.

  • Pictured here is Chuck Massart of West Liberty Subaru. Hometown Charity West Liberty Subaru is one of the Subaru dealerships working with Make-A-Wish for the Share the Love Promotion. When customers come in to purchase a car they have the opportunity to pick one of five charities for Subaru to give $250 to – and as a Hometown Charity West Liberty will be giving Make-A-Wish an additional $50 each time a customer picks Make-A-Wish!

Topgolf is a national sponsor of Make-A-Wish and during the month of August it’s “Make-A-Wish Month” where the staff of Topgolf conducts several fundraisers, including a customer donation campaign. In addition to fundraising, they’ve also hosted several wish events like wish kid birthday parties!

Tom Paul has been volunteering for Make-A-Wish since 2016, he is also a talented acoustic guitar player. During the broadcast, Tom played classic holiday melodies to kick-off the campaign that day.

Since that time, wish kids have been invited to celebrate their birthdays and join in on holiday fun at many of their seasonal fundraising events for Make-A-Wish.

The Associates of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Services have been raising funds at their various offices since 2007. Each year, Jen, Kristin and Melissa, come together to implement the annual Purse Bash. Last April, 400 guests enjoyed food, drinks, designer hand bags, auctions and vendors, with proceeds benefiting local wishes.

Debbie and Robyn are the relatives of wish kid Zachary, who had is wish at the age of 16, to go on a tropical vacation. Since his passing, Debbie, Robyn and their community came together in honor of Zachary's wish by holding their first-ever auction and raffle event benefiting Make-A-Wish.
