Charleston Office Internships

The M­ake-A-Wish® Southern West Virginia regional office provides two exciting types of internships: Outreach & Development and Program Services.  Our office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. and an intern’s hours and days can be flexible within that time frame.  Internships are unpaid. Resumes submitted after the due date will not be considered for that semester. You will be contacted regarding your resume within two weeks of the semester deadline.
Spring semester: resumes due by December 15th
Summer semester: resumes due by April 15th
Fall semester: resumes are due by August 1st


Program Services (Wish Team)

  • Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting fulfilling children’s wishes including travel, celebrity, occupational and gift wishes. Tasks may include:
  • Write thank-you letters and follow up correspondence upon the completion of a wish
  • Periodically send gifts to children in the hospital
  • Assist with office duties as needed
  • Additional projects as assigned or required by the student’s internship program
  • Making travel arrangements and creating itineraries for wish families
  • Researching wish ideas via the Internet, and making telephone calls to donors and vendors
  • Participating in the fulfillment of gift wishes (for example, shopping sprees) and/or wish parties
  • General office duties (answering phones, filing, updating databases)
 

Outreach & Development

  • Assist in organizing community relations and outreach programs
  • Identify community events/health fairs/volunteer fairs relevant to Make-A-Wish
  • Assist with promotional events
  • Assist the Regional Manager and development team that is responsible for raising funds for children’s wishes
  • Assist with the Kids for Wish Kids and Wishmakers on Campus fundraising programs
  • Assist in planning and implementing special events such as golf tournaments, motorcycle runs, haunted houses and recognition events.
  • May include assisting at events depending on intern’s availability.
  • Events are usually during weekends or evenings
  • Make follow-up telephone calls to donors and volunteers (no telemarketing involved)
  • Learn information about the children’s wishes while writing wish stories for thank you letters
  • General office duties (answering phones, filing, updating databases)
